Ice crystals

Ice crystals formed underground at the Permafrost Institute in Yakutsk. An estimated 1,672 billion tonnes of carbon are stored within the northern hemisphere permafrost alone, almost double of that in the atmosphere. Permafrost thawing could exacerbate climate change by releasing methane and hydro carbons.
