Small feet

Baby feet stick out under warm reindeer skin. When these young Nenets feet grow up, they might not be able to walk in their ancestors footsteps as the Yamal peninsula will look very different from today. Yamal peninsula has huge gas deposits, holding almost a quarter of the world’s known reserves. Russia has decided not to sign a convention on tribal rights and national legislation does not yet require a comprehensive social impact assessment of industrial projects like oil and gas extraction. However if the tundra continues to thaw extraction processes and infrastructure will be increasingly costly and risky.
