Former lake

Yasha Yaptik stands in a gulley created by massive permafrost subsidence. This used to be a large lake which his tribe relied on for fishing until this huge part of the landscape collapsed. This is happening all over the tundra as the permafrost melts and it's a new phenomena for the Nenets.
