The last generation

Valya and Yasha Yaptik with their youngest son Pasha. In the Nenet family model it falls on the youngest son to look after the parents when they are old and subsequently will inherit the Chum . However both Yasha and Valja don't expect their traditional way of life to last for longer than forty years. "We listen to radio almost every day, so we are well aware of what is happening. We understand what climate change means" says Yasha Yaptik.
