Yasha is part of a Nenets tribe. All year on the expansive tundra of the Yamal peninsula, he lives as a nomad with his wife Valja, their six children, and 200 reindeer. Yasha does not expect to continue his traditional way of life for more than forty years. He lives in a changing landscape as the permafrost thaws . Western scientists are now increasingly concerned that if the global temperature continues to rise, millions of tonnes of methane locked in the permafrost will be released into the atmosphere accelerating climate change and mirroring the fate of the Nenets onto the rest of the world.
