The red Ocipoda crab is one of 34 different crab species that have been identified by Amalesh Choudhury and his students on Sagar Island. “We have also identified 60 different types of snails here. The ecological system around mangrove areas are rich and important for all living creatures, we are still making new important discoveries and this ecosystem could be lost before we fully understand it,” says marine professor Amalesh Choudhury.
