Professor Choudhury

Professor Amalesh Choudhury has worked for over 45 years in the Sundarbans, starting a program in 1976 to restore the protective mangrove forests around Sagar Island. It has been no less than a lifetimes work, but at 86 he will not give up. "Extreme weather events like cyclones and storms have become more common. Global warming is one reason for this, but personally I am an optimist and think it will take at least 100 years till this island is under water. Till then we have to do what we can to prevent a catastropheā€¯, he says.
