Low tide

In the beginning of July and in the end of September the tidal range can be almost seven metres in the Sundarbans delta. When humans populated the delta over a hundred years ago a lot of the mangroves covering the island where logged to clear farmland. As cyclones and tidal surges increase the importance of protecting these forests is paramount. Mangrove trees help to bind the earth and therefore keep the land intact preventing rapid erosion.
