Gangotri basin

Twenty years ago settlements were few in the town of Gangotri. Now 14 kilometres from the glacier, thousands of years ago the mouth of the glacier would have reached as far down as Gangotri village. Small guest houses, ashrams and shops have popped up using all available space and encroaching the once sacred sight.
